Day 1 St Malo to Chateaubourg

After a day of travelling yesterday, it was so good to get to beautiful St Malo and have a walk around. We came to this part of France for summer holidays when the girlies were young (couldn’t face flying with small children!) and I have very happy memories of building sandcastles and long lunches.

We had our first dinner at the hotel restaurant on the beautiful beach. It is a group of seven cyclists and two guides (I’m the only female so will probably be doing my own happy pootling on the bike!)

The first morning started extremely well…

With a very happy tummy we then did a quick leisurely tour of beautiful St Malo and a rear wheel dip in the Channel.

The first part of the ride was on a flat, busyish road heading towards Mont St Michel shimmering in the distance. Sadly no time for a visit today as we turned inland onto much quieter roads through pretty villages and beautiful, undulating countryside.
I rode with the group until the coffee stop and then happily pootled on my own as the speedy chaps did their thing.
Lunch was a picnic in a village in the middle of nowhere featuring more of my favourite food.

It was a reasonably long ride today and my body mostly cooperated so hopefully that will continue.

We are staying in a lovely water mill hotel which I have of course decorated with washed cycling kit.

End of day routine completed after a thoroughly enjoyable day, it must be gelato/beer time.
