Day 6 Brantome to Souillac
Another 6.30am breakfast and on the road at 7am. The first part of the ride was cool and idyllic, cycling at its dreamiest.

Pedalling to the coffee stop (pain au chocolat) and lunch at the halfway point (another cheese baguette sarnie) continued in the same happy way.

By midday however, the temperature had hit 32c and a long climb with no shade on a road busy with tourist traffic made me decidedly grumpy. We stopped in beautiful Sarlat for an ice cream. My grumpiness was definitely alleviated by a ‘degustation cone’ - 7 little boules of different flavours.

We left Sarlat on a gorgeous, shaded cycleway by the side of the Dordogne river.
I had already decided that I really didn’t fancy the last 15 miles in a furnace and I was very happy to see Luc and the van as we left the cycleway. My Garmin said it was 39c and that is just too hot for me.
