Day 8 Rest day in Carcassonne

I didn’t think I was going to need another rest day but it has been rather lovely! A cup of tea in bed, followed by a very leisurely huge breakfast with multiple croissants (not bored of them yet). There was a walking tour around the citadel on offer but I’ve been there a couple of times and stunning as it is, I fancied an alternative less touristy walkabouts. AllTrails suggested a walk down the Canal du Midi and it was delightfully peaceful.

The Ville basse is across the river from the citadel and is where our swanky hotel is located. It was a great place to wander around with some typically French art installations.

I had a brief walk across the bridge to the citadel but decided it was time for a beer. The hotel gardens have a gorgeous view of the Citadel but at €9 I only had one!

I picked up some yummy picnic food on my walkabouts so this evening’s dinner has been in my seriously swanky room, hopefully fully rejuvenated and ready for the next 5 days of pedalling.
